Team Building
Symptom:
Team Members are throwing darts at each other instead
of working together
Prescription:
Call the Team Doctors for a complete diagnosis.
Diane
analyzes the needs of the team and works to develop the
necessary structure and environment for it to thrive.
Before developing any team development activities, she
meets with the team members individually or as a group
to determine issues and concerns that need to be addressed.
The individual discussions also help Diane build rapport
with the participants and get everyone’s buy-in
for the program. The information gained is invaluable
in developing an approach that is most relevant to each
specific team’s needs. The investment of time in
doing a thorough needs assessment substantially increases
the effectiveness of the program and the productivity
of the team.
Based
on the information gained from the discussions with team
members, Diane develops a highly customized approach to
address the team’s needs. A new team requires a
very different approach than a team that is embroiled
in conflict. But in either situation--Teamwork doesn't
just happen. Teams need:
- Effective Leadership
- Shared Goals
- Clearly Defined Roles &
Expectations
- Effective Communications
- Ground Rules and Established
Procedures
- Boundaries of authority
and decision making
Diane’s
team development programs are very highly customized to
the specific needs of each individual client. Furthermore,
Diane’s approach is very practical — she does
not concentrate on "warm and fuzzy" activities
but rather emphasizes the foundation that the team needs
to succeed.
In
some cases certain individuals may benefit from feedback
on their personal behavior and how it is perceived by
others. There are many options for providing such feedback,
including one-on-one coaching, behavioral profiling, and
360-degree feedback to name a few. Diane follows up with
specific individuals and the team to get them back on
track and keep them there.

“I found your team building presentation enlightening,
and very useful in my day-to-day dealings. Your
insights and suggestions will be helpful for me not
only in dealing with the team members that report to
me, but just as helpful and applicable in dealing with
cross-functional teams on which I am currently involved.
I thought that I had good team-building skills prior
to your presentation, but the suggestions you made during
the presentation will definitely help me hone these
skills even sharper.”
